Micah Web Site Features

Graphic calendar(s)

  • with user configable optional filters (e.g. to see only worship services)
  • with a direct link to a page with detailed information on the event
  • that includes upcoming Shabbat and special services

Three Specific Graphic Calendars

  • The main calendar, accessible by a top level folder.  A user does not have to successfully log in before viewing it.  However, if not logged in, you can not view religious school calendar entries.
  • The religious school calendar, accessible only to Micah members who have successfully logged in.
  • The staff calendar,a private calendar accessible only to Micah staff who have successfully logged in.  The staff calendar will show all events on the site, but will also be used as a private shared group calendar for the staff.

New navigation aids

  • a navigation bar with tabs, folders/subfolders
  • a search function.  The search works just like Google.  Type what you want to find in the box and then the entire Micah web site is searched for matching entries

Private content

  • In addition to the public portions of the web site, we will provide members-only content that will only be visible after you login with your user name and password.
  • So, now we can include many new things such as the rabbi’s sermons, Temple Board information, copies of the Vine in PDF form, religious school calendar, information about members who need assistance, Yahrzeit and Shiva information, and recipes.

Online forms

  • We will in subsequent releases enable members to fill out and submit forms online.  Example forms include Sukkot yard sale volunteers, religious school registration, Oneg and Kiddush hosting, and the famous “Welcome to Temple Micah” yellow cards.

Portlets

  • Portlets are small self contained boxes which can provide navigation or information about Micah like upcoming events, services, news, or a small calendar.  They are located in either the left column or right column or both.  They are very useful and users should definitely learn to look them over on each page.

Finding out about Micah events

  • There are many ways to find out about what’s going on at Micah.  These include:
  • The 3 graphic calendars previously discussed
  • The upcoming events portlet
  • The calendar portlet
  • The pages within adult education, micah groups, community events often have a section at the bottom of the page “Mark Your Calendar”.  This will list all events for that topic.  For example, the “Hebrew Poetry” adult ed class page has a list of events for that topic.
